The second generation Impreza was available with 1.5, 2.0 and 2.5 liters engines. In the most productive version, the engine power (2.5 liters) is 175 horsepower.

The third generation Impreza is one of the most unsuccessful models in the history of Impreza, and was produced between 2007 and 2011. In the basic version, the truck was equipped with a 1.5-liter 105 hp engine.

The fourth generation of Impreza was equipped with more modern 1.6 and 2.0 engines with 114 and 150 hp, respectively.

And finally, the fifth generation of Impreza. The most popular version is a version with 2-liter 150-horsepower atmospheric combustion engine.

How to increase clearance

The Subaru Forester suspension design is such that the optimum way to increase clearance is to install extended springs and shock absorbers or to use spacers that put between the support bearings of the Macpherson struts and the body. Exotic methods such as mounting large diameter wheels or changing the suspension to pneumatic or hydraulic do not have the desired effect because they require a serious body rework or very large investments comparable to the cost of the vehicle. In addition, the installation of large diameter wheels will also require the replacement of gearboxes, because the larger the wheel, the more torque is needed to rotate them, and thus the higher the load on the gearbox.

Installation of McPherson’s extended stands is justified in the sense that they can be selected from other models, but the consequences will not be too good. In fact, standard columns ideally correspond to weight of the car and occurring at movement on off-road loadings. If you select stands on load-carrying capacity, form and rigidity, you can find suitable, but for this you need a lot of experience and deep knowledge. That’s why only a good car mechanic who works on increasing Subaru Forrester’s clearance all the time can choose the right long posts. It is possible, of course, to use racks from off-road suspension of this car, but replacement of racks will require the replacement of the stabilizer of transverse stability, because off-road racks are not only higher, but also softer, so the stabilizer is a little harder.

Many inexperienced Subaru owners often install on their machines autobafields, that is, intervitkovye spacers, because this way to increase the clearance does not require any special training, or any special equipment. Simple enough jack, which is always in the trunk, because to install the car bumper is enough to lift one side of the car to hang the wheel. Thus it is not necessary even to remove a wheel itself, after all it does not interfere with installation of these spacers. Despite all attractiveness of such way of increase in road clearance, use of autobuffers leads to a number of negative consequences which even can cause an accident. In more detail we will tell about autobaffers in one of the following articles.

For suspensions of any design in which the spring and shock absorber are combined in a single column, the optimal way to increase clearance is to install spacers between the support bearings and the car body. Even when driving really off-road, the main load on this section is directed vertically and only a tenth of a percent is in the horizontal vector. That’s why longer bolts than standard are used to fix the spacers. The lack of a strong horizontal load results in the fact that even spacers made of not too strong rubber do not create backlash in the support bearings. However, polyurethane spacers are the best way to increase clearance on such suspensions, as the characteristics of polyurethane are much higher than those of rubber. In addition, when the machine drives quickly even on unpaved roads, not to mention off-road, the suspension spring does not always have time to straighten and often hit the next obstacle occurs when the spring is partially compressed.
