This 64 page illustrated Instructions Manual in downloadable PDF for the P-61 Pilot Series A & B Airplane.
The P-61 series airplane is a twin engine,
two boom, mid wing monoplane. The primary tactical
function of this airplane is the interception
and destruction of hostile aircraft during periods
of poor visibility or under cover of darkness.Early P-61A and late P-61B airplanes
carry as a crew a pilot, a gunner; and a radio
operator. The nacelle has compartments to accommodate
each member of the crew. The radio
operator's compartment is in the aft section of
the nacelle and is separated from the other two
compartments by turret and radio equipment.
Late P-61A and early P-G1B airplanes have no provisions
for a gunner. The turret installation has
been removed. The pilot and gunner enter their compartments
by a door in the nose wheel well. The door incorporates a folding ladder
held in place by clips. The ladder is stowed from
the inside by stepping on the button on top of the
rod which folds the ladder. Access to the radio
operator's compartment is by way of the flush type
door in the underside section of the tail cone.
